The Foundation 2 curriculum continues to follow the EYFS Statutory Framework building on the knowledge learnt in Foundation 1, but also introduces more formalised learning to ensure our pupils are ready for Year 1. Although our pupils still have some opportunities for child-initiated learning, they also follow a more structured timetable based on lessons that cover all the seven areas of the EYFS Curriculum.
Our Foundation 2 pupils are nurtured in small classes by a team of caring, dedicated staff. There are two Foundation 2 classes continuing with the school’s bird theme named Mallards and Kingfishers. Each class has a class teacher and a full-time teaching assistant, and our good staff-pupil ratio and differentiated learning allows us to tailor the journey to each pupil’s individual needs and support, as well as challenge each pupil to fulfil their true potential. This all takes place in a vibrant and engaging environment with access to their own outdoor area. The pupils are encouraged and challenged to ensure they learn at their own pace with support and extension activities provided during every lesson.
The pupils’ learning is continually assessed and recorded in celebration books which are shared with parents at regular intervals. Parents are regularly informed about their child’s progress through our open door policy as well as through formal parent consultations. We believe in working closely with our parents to provide the best possible learning experience for every pupil.
Our Foundation 2 pupils have the opportunity to be part of a before-school club from the Spring Term onwards.
