Admissions

The main points of entry to Avon House School Preparatory School are:

  • Nursery (Foundation 1) from the academic term following a child’s 3rd birthday
  • Reception (Foundation 2) in the September following a child’s 4th birthday
  • Year 3 via our 7+ Entrance Exam

Please complete the following Enquiry Form

Nursery (Foundation 1 - Puffins)

Our Nursery places are on a first come, first served basis. We do not hold formal assessments for children entering the School at this level, however we do arrange Stay and Play mornings for families to become familiar with the School and a Readiness for School discussion is required ahead of a child being able to start Nursery.

To register your interest in a place for your child to join our Foundation 1 (Nursery) class, please email admissions@ahsprep.co.uk to request a Registration Form and complete payment of a non-returnable £100 Registration Fee.

Following this, Entry Acceptance Forms are issued and a further £650 Acceptance Fee payment is required.

Reception (Foundation 2 – Kingfishers and Mallards)

We have a second intake into Avon House Preparatory School at Reception, for which families can register their interest for in advance by completing the Registration Form and paying the £100 Registration Fee.

The parents and prospective pupil are then invited to a meeting with the Head Teacher or Head of Pre-Prep Department approximately a year before the child is due to join us, during which we can start to get to know each other and parents can talk about their aspirations for their child and ask any questions that they may have about the School.

Reception places are not confirmed until after this meeting, at which point parents are required to complete an Acceptance Form and pay a £650 Acceptance Fee.

Year 3 (7+)

We also have a 7+ Entry via our 7+ Entrance Exam which includes Scholarship opportunities.

Our 7+ Entrance Exam is held in the preceding Spring Term and the date and details are announced well in advance, although candidates may be considered after the set date.

Candidates are interviewed on a one-to-one basis and undertake an examination consisting of mathematics, reading comprehension and creative writing tests.  The candidates who perform the best may also be considered for an academic scholarship.

Entry into other year groups

Places may become available in other year groups throughout the school year. Prospective pupils are invited to spend a Taster and Assessment Day at School and to participate in lessons within their current cohort so we can assess whether Avon House Preparatory School would be a suitable environment for the child.

We also request a report from the child’s current school and in some cases ask permission to speak to the school directly.

A formal offer of a place will be made subject to satisfactory completion of the Taster and Assessment Day and an entry date agreed with the Head Teacher / Admissions Lead.  An Acceptance Form is then completed by the family and the Acceptance fee of £650 paid.

While a great deal of information on the School can be found on this website, we do encourage parents of prospective pupils to visit us, either at one of our regular Open Events or on a personal tour of the School during a working morning.  More information can be found on our Open Events page of this website.

If you would like to arrange a visit please contact our Admissions Lead, Miss Barrett to arrange this (details below).

Further details of our Admissions Policy and Procedures can be found in the Policies section of this website.
