The Wind in the Knighton Woods

For this term’s WOW Day, Year 2 were introduced to our new text, The Wind in the Willows, as well as exploring a woodland habitat. We began the day by reading the first chapter of the book, where we were introduced to Mole, Rat, Badger and Toad. We then walked to Knighton Woods and investigated the area, looking for a range of flora and fauna. While foxes, rabbits and squirrels seemed to be hiding from us, we saw plenty of ducks, including the fondly named ‘chicken duck’ due to its head bobbing – this was later revealed to be a moorhen!

We enjoyed looking over the serene pond filled with water lilies and it was lovely to see the sunshine dappled through the trees. The rainy walk home ensured we had a typical experience in British woodland!
