On Wednesday 17th November Avon House School took part in the London North ISA Swimming Gala at Southbury Leisure Centre, Enfield which serves as a time trial to pick a regional team to swim at the ISA National Championships later in the month at the Olympic pool in Stratford.
For many it was their first interschool gala and with twelve schools attending over two heats plus 50 metre individual distances to be faced, some younger pupils were apprehensive if not anxious. All swam well and with composure and commitment whilst offering enthusiastic support to their teammates.
Thankfully, there were a number of success stories and all in Year 6. Lacey and Merry won bronzes in breaststroke and backstroke respectively whilst in the latter discipline Joshua won a gold in emphatic style. The morning culminated in a high as Owain, Jaime, Joshua and Lacey combined to win a silver in the mixed freestyle relay missing out on gold by a metre.
A huge well done to all who swam and conducted themselves admirably and particularly to those who doubled up, namely the medallists mentioned plus Oskar, Eva, Aarav and Molly plus Kai and Jayden who were called up to swim against Year 4 pupils and held their own.
