The annual Avon House ‘Carols by Candlelight’ service was hosted at All Saints’ Church on Thursday. The event brought together the Avon House community for an evening of music, festive spirit and the story of Christmas told in readings by Year 6 and staff representatives.
With each year group in the prep department singing a carefully rehearsed carol, ‘Mele Kalikimaka’ performed by members of Ukulele Club and Miss Neal, a wonderful trio of carols from Violin Club and Miss Whitestone, School Choir performances and the Teachers Choir chorusing ‘O Holy Night.’
The celebration was opened with our Head Boy and Head Girl, Amha and Josephine and their poetry recital of ‘The First Christmas’, followed with a beautiful solo sound of Jia singing verse one of ‘Once in Royal David’s city’ before we all joined in. Maggie from Year 6 led the Year 6 choir in a breath-taking performance of Pie Jesu before the service closed with an enthusiastically sung ‘Christmas, Wonderful Christmas’, written and composed by our own Head of Music, Mr Reed. Thank you to all those that came.
The service, as always, was a wonderful way for everyone to usher in the holiday season and to share light and joy with each other.
