Today at Avon House, Year 3 and Year 4 were privileged to have met Juliet Coley, an established historian, author, publisher and survivor through ill health. Juliet was inspirational as she talked about her journey and her life experiences to date. During her visit, she talked to the children about many black figures who have made a significant impact and should be recognised for their contributions such as, Alexander Miles, an African American inventor and businessman, best known for inventing the elevator and Lewis Latimer, an inventor and draftsman, best known for his contributions to the patenting of the light bulb and the telephone. Some of our pupils were fortunate enough to choose a book as a reward for answering Juliet’s questions well. The session drew to a close with children asking many varied questions. We would like to thank Juliet Coley for coming in to visit our school.
